NYS Senator Dean Murray recently awarded Caroline Mandaro a NYS Senate Commendation Award in recognition of her actions benefiting the Middle Country community. The ceremony took place on February 21, 2025, at the Middle Country Public Library (MCPL) in Centereach. Mandaro was accompanied by her family and colleagues, including MCPL Director Sophia Serlis-McPhillips.

On August 2, 2024, Mandaro demonstrated courage by administering Narcan to a woman who had overdosed outside the Centereach library. Her quick response, attributed to prior training, is credited with saving the woman's life.

Mandaro has been serving as a full-time Youth Services Librarian at MCPL since 2022. Her work focuses on early childhood and family support through the Family Place Libraries Initiative. She emphasizes creating a welcoming environment for families to foster early learning. While receiving this award is significant for Mandaro, she looks forward to another important milestone: her wedding in April.
