State Assemblyman DeStefano recently expressed his frustration with the ongoing delays in the state budget proceedings. According to DeStefano, the majority conferences in Albany continue to abuse budget extensions for their own political gains.
In a statement released on Apr 10, 2023, DeStefano criticized the Albany Majority lawmakers, saying, "Today, another budget extension was passed to give Albany Majority lawmakers more time to settle their party infighting, which is still holding up the state budget proceedings."
DeStefano highlighted the negative consequences of the delays, pointing out that the one-party rule has led to a late, fiscally-irresponsible budget that lacks transparency. He expressed disappointment in the lack of consideration for the residents of the state, stating, "It’s disappointing, yet not surprising, to see what one-party rule results in."
The Assemblyman also raised concerns about the anticipated state spending record of over $230 billion, warning that it would ultimately lead to higher taxes for the residents. Despite the challenges, DeStefano reassured his constituents, saying, "I will continue to support my constituents in the 3rd Assembly District and fight for a fair, fast and transparent budget that will fit your needs."
DeStefano's remarks underscore the urgency of resolving the party infighting and reaching a timely agreement on the state budget to avoid further financial burdens on the residents.
