Margaret Schedel, a professor in the Department of Music at Stony Brook University, has been selected for the 2025-26 American Council on Education (ACE) Fellows Program. Among 25 emerging leaders in higher education, Schedel expressed her honor in being chosen, appreciating the program's potential for learning and mentorship.

“I am deeply honored to have been selected for the ACE Fellows Program, which has a long and distinguished history of preparing higher education leaders,” said Schedel. She emphasized the value of observing executive leadership and the collaborative learning aspect among the fellows.

ACE President Ted Mitchell highlighted the program's role in developing leaders through a mentorship model since its inception in 1965. It aims to equip fellows with leadership skills to address the evolving challenges of the higher education sector.

“The ACE Fellows Program is a cornerstone of the higher education leadership pipeline, supporting emerging leaders as they develop vital skills and knowledge,” Mitchell stated.

Stony Brook University leaders praised Schedel's selection. Executive Vice President and Provost Carl W. Lejuez recognized her as an asset to the institution, asserting confidence in her contribution to the ACE program.

“I congratulate Meg for her acceptance to the ACE higher education leaders program,” Lejuez noted.

David Wrobel, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, also commended Schedel's selection, describing it as a prestigious opportunity to enhance her leadership skills. “I’m so pleased for Meg to have been selected as a 2025-26 ACE fellow,” said Wrobel.

The program, renowned as the longest-running leadership development initiative in the U.S., aims to prepare fellows for senior roles across higher education institutions. The experience includes tailored mentorship and strategic planning, positioning them to implement impactful changes upon returning to their institutions. More than 80 percent of past fellows have advanced to significant leadership positions.
