COVID-19 Update: Suffolk County Reports Latest Figures on Hospitalizations and Cases

Suffolk County provided an update on the COVID-19 situation on April 3, 2024, focusing on key metrics related to hospitalizations and cases. According to the CDC, hospital admission rates and the percentage of COVID-19 deaths among all deaths are now the primary surveillance metrics.

In terms of hospitalizations for the week ending March 23, 2024, there were 106 new hospital admissions of confirmed COVID-19 patients, marking a 11.6% increase from the previous week. The hospital admissions per 100k in the past week were reported at 3.7, with the COVID-19 hospital admissions level classified as low.

On April 3, 2024, Suffolk County reported that 43 individuals were hospitalized, with 56% of them being hospitalized due to COVID-19 or complications of the virus. There were 5 new admissions and 5 discharges since the last report, with 8 patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Regarding fatalities, there have been a total of 5,273 fatalities in Suffolk County since March 2020, with an increase of 1 reported since the last update. The annual breakdown of fatalities is as follows: 2020: 2,311; 2021: 1,507; 2022: 1,015; 2023: 318; and 2024: 127 to date.

In the COVID-19 case tracker for April 1, 2024, 73 new first-time cases were reported in Suffolk County, with 4.8 cases per 100k and 3.5 on a 7-day average, which includes reported PCR and antigen tests.

The county continues to provide information on vaccination clinics and testing options for COVID-19, encouraging those eligible to receive their vaccines through various programs and facilities.
