Assemblyman Keith P. Brown Speaks at 3rd Annual Co-Occurring Disorders Conference

Assemblyman Keith P. Brown (R,C-Northport) recently participated in the 3rd Annual Strengthening the System of Care for Co-Occurring Disorders Long Island Conference, held on April 11, 2024. The event brought together lawmakers and experts in mental health and substance use disorders to raise awareness of co-occurring disorders.

Brown expressed his enthusiasm about the Conference, stating, "I was amazed at the turnout at this year’s Conference." He further highlighted the importance of the event in promoting integration of co-occurring services and advancing co-occurring disorder treatment and support for affected individuals and their families.

Reflecting on the impact of the Conference, Brown remarked, "I am hopeful organizing and expanding this Conference year after year will have a profound impact on helping spread awareness of co-occurring disorders." He also mentioned his satisfaction in concluding the event with a 'Call to Action,' urging attendees to finalize a Co-Occurring Disorders Bill of Rights/Action Statement for introduction in the state Legislature this session.

With only two months remaining in the Legislative Session, Brown emphasized the urgency of bringing attention to co-occurring disorders and the strategies discussed at the Conference to the Senate and Assembly Chamber Floors for debate. He concluded by expressing his anticipation for increased focus on mental health issues to provide necessary support to struggling individuals and their families.
