New York State Senator Anthony Palumbo (R,C-New Suffolk) today announced a significant victory for Long Island veterans as over $80,000 in past donations, generously given by New Yorkers through the state’s tax-checkoff system, will finally reach the Long Island State Veterans Home. This achievement comes after months of advocacy from veteran groups and Republican officials, with Senator Palumbo leading the charge.
Following a report from the State Comptroller’s Office revealing that millions in state tax donations to Veterans organizations had not been disbursed, Senator Palumbo took action to ensure that these funds were allocated appropriately. In a statement, Palumbo emphasized the importance of timely distribution, stating, "Our veterans should not be forced to wait years for support so graciously gifted by their fellow New Yorkers."
Expressing gratitude for Senator Palumbo's efforts, Fred Sganga, Executive Director of the Long Island State Veterans Home, acknowledged the impact of the funds, noting that they will enhance the quality of life for veterans and their families. Sganga thanked Senator Palumbo for his relentless dedication to securing the critical funding.
Similarly, Joe Cognitore, Commander of the VFW Post 6249 and member of the Long Island State Veterans Home Advisory Board, commended Senator Palumbo and his colleagues for their advocacy. Cognitore highlighted the significance of these donations in supporting veterans and providing essential care on Long Island, applauding the Senator for his unwavering commitment to veterans and their families.
The successful allocation of these funds marks a significant step towards improving the support and services available to Long Island veterans, underscoring the importance of effective advocacy and collaboration in ensuring the well-being of those who have served their country.
