Suffolk County released its latest COVID-19 data on May 8, 2024. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has identified hospital admission rates and the percentage of COVID-19 deaths among all deaths as the primary surveillance metrics.

For the week ending April 27, 2024, Suffolk County reported new hospital admissions of confirmed COVID-19 patients at 52. This figure represents a decrease of 17.5% from the previous week. Hospital admissions per 100k in the past week were recorded at 1.8, placing the COVID-19 hospital admissions level at low.

On May 8, Suffolk County reported that out of the total number of individuals hospitalized, which was 27, approximately 56% were due to COVID-19 or complications arising from it. Six new admissions and seven discharges were reported since the last update. One patient was in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

However, it is important to note that hospitals are no longer reporting data to NYSDOH on weekends or holidays.

In terms of fatalities related to COVID-19, there have been a total of 5,284 fatalities since March 2020. This is an increase of one since the last report.

The annual breakdown is as follows:

2020: 2,311

2021: 1,507

2022: 1,015

2023: 318

2024: To date -138

On May 6, Suffolk County's COVID-19 Case Tracker reported that there were a total of 59 cases. This equates to about 3.9 cases per every hundred thousand people; this is based on a seven-day average which includes both PCR and antigen tests results.

As of September 1, 2023, positive results include both first infections and reinfections. Prior to this date, reinfections were reported on a separate dashboard, which has since been archived.

The department is offering COVID vaccines to uninsured and underinsured patients through New York State's Vaccines for Children program and Vaccines for Adults program, also known as the Bridge Access Program. Those with insurance that covers the COVID-19 vaccine are encouraged to receive their vaccines at local pharmacies, health care providers offices, or local federally qualified health centers.
