Brookhaven launched its Down Payment Assistance Program for First-Time Homebuyers this month to provide eligible homebuyers with up to $50,000 in down payment and closing costs toward buying an eligible, new, or existing single-family home.

"I encourage our residents to take advantage of this program, which may offer valuable assistance for first-time home buyers. Those seeking information regarding the program should contact the Long Island Housing Partnership at the number listed below," Brookhaven Supervisor Dan Panico said, according to a Town of Brookhaven news release.

According to the same news release, Panico, members of the town council, the Department of Housing and Community Development, and the Long Island Housing Partnership announced the program.

Homeowners must reside in the home as their principal residence for a minimum of 10 years to remain eligible. Funding comes from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The application form is available online at BrookhavenNY.gov/DownPayment.

For more information, call the Long Island Housing Partnership at 631-435-4710 and ask about the Brookhaven Town HOME Down Payment Assistance Program.
