Rep. Nick LaLota (R-Suffolk County) released a statement ahead of Labor Day 2024, emphasizing the critical role of union workers in Suffolk County.

“As Labor Day approaches, we must recognize the invaluable contributions of organized labor, particularly here in Suffolk County. Whether it’s the commitment of our teachers shaping young minds, the dedication of our police officers, the skilled craftsmanship of our construction workers, or the compassionate care from our healthcare professionals, organized labor touches every corner of our community,” said LaLota. “Union workers are not only building our infrastructure and protecting our streets, but they are also strengthening the very fabric of our society. This Labor Day, let's celebrate the achievements of American workers and reaffirm our commitment to a fairer economy where every worker has the opportunity to thrive.”

Since taking office, LaLota has been an advocate for workers and their families. Since early 2023, he has worked to prevent the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) from reassigning air traffic controllers against their will and uprooting families.

Earlier this year, LaLota voted to prioritize American workers by overturning a Biden-Harris Administration rule that waived Buy American requirements for Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations purchased with American tax dollars.

In May 2023, LaLota voted against a Republican measure aimed at protecting local energy jobs and Long Island workers.

In April 2023, he helped introduce the bipartisan National Apprenticeship Act to increase apprenticeship opportunities, streamline access for workers and employers, and expand apprenticeships into new industry sectors and occupations.
