Assemblyman Jarett Gandolfo (R,C,I-Sayville) has called on SUNY Brockport leadership to rescind their invitation to Anthony Bottom, a convicted killer charged with the murder of two NYPD officers in 1971. Gandolfo views the invitation as a disrespectful act towards law enforcement members and strongly condemns the event.
“It is absolutely disgraceful for SUNY Brockport to invite convicted cop-killer Anthony Bottom to speak on campus and refer to him as a ‘political prisoner.’ Make no mistake, Anthony Bottom brutally murdered NYPD Officers Waverly Jones and Joseph Piagentini – he is no political prisoner, but a vicious killer. The very premise of this speaking engagement is an insult to every law enforcement officer and police family in New York State. Worst of all, it is yet another slap in the face to the families of Officers Waverly Jones and Joseph Piagentini, our fallen heroes, who have already had to endure so much heartache," said Gandolfo.
"Anthony Bottom deserves no platform, especially not one paid for with taxpayer dollars,” he added.
