On January 24, 2022, Assemblyman Gandolfo and the Assembly Minority Conference proposed a bill aimed at providing inflation relief by eliminating state sales tax on everyday items.

"Under the Biden Administration and Majority-controlled Congress, we have seen a historic mismanagement of the American economy. As a result, the rate of inflation is the highest it’s been in 35 years and the price of goods has increased substantially, making it harder for the average family to make ends meet," said Gandolfo.

The proposed legislation seeks to eliminate state sales taxes on essential items such as food, home care products, and fuel. Additionally, it would grant local governments the authority to remove taxes on these items.

"Our proposal will also authorize local governments to eliminate taxes on such items. Bill A.8481 will provide much-needed financial relief for New Yorkers," Gandolfo added.
