Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced today that Ryszard Murawski, 44, of Lindenhurst, has pleaded guilty to Murder in the Second Degree for fatally stabbing his wife, Wioleta Murawski, in their backyard in January.
“This is a tragic case of domestic violence that ended with the senseless death of Wioleta Murawski and horrific trauma to their child. This defendant will now have to pay for his actions in prison,” said District Attorney Tierney. “Domestic violence is never the answer. According to court documents and the defendant’s admissions during his guilty plea allocution, on January 3, 2024, at approximately 8:33 p.m., Suffolk County Police received a 911 call from the couple’s 15-year-old son stating that his father had stabbed his mother and then fled in a black GMC pick-up truck. The teen begged the police for help as he desperately tried to save his mother’s life. He informed police that when he returned home from his friend’s house, he heard his mother screaming for help in the backyard. He ran to the backyard where he saw Murawski stabbing his mother with a large serrated knife.
The boy jumped on his father and struggled with him until his mother was able to break free. Wioleta Murawski stumbled across the street before collapsing with her son by her side. She was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
After the stabbing, Murawski fled in a black GMC pick-up truck. When police attempted to stop him, he refused to pull over and a chase ensued. Multiple police units pursued Murawski for more than seven miles before he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a building.
Murawski’s home surveillance system captured the attack on his wife.
On September 17, 2024, Murawski pled guilty to Murder in the Second Degree before Judge Karen M. Wilutis. He is expected to be sentenced to 22 years to life in prison and is due back in court on October 17, 2024. He is represented by Lindsay Henry, Esq.
This case is prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Sheetal Shetty of the Homicide Bureau and investigated by Detective Adam Quinones of the Suffolk County Police Department.
