Nina Cahill, 42, of Holtsville, has been indicted on charges including Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree for allegedly stealing a vehicle, robbing a bank, and leading police on two car chases. The incident culminated in a collision with a police vehicle that injured an officer.
“The defendant allegedly compounded her already serious crimes by recklessly attempting to evade responsibility by fleeing from police. In so doing, the defendant endangered passing motorists and ultimately injured a police officer,” said District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney. “The defendant will be held accountable for her alleged actions through the broad array of charges contained in this comprehensive indictment.”
According to the investigation, Cahill stole a 2007 Toyota Corolla from Stony Brook University Hospital's valet stand on September 4, 2024. On September 6, she used the stolen car to rob a bank in Selden, allegedly taking approximately $500 before fleeing.
On September 7, Cahill was involved in two high-speed pursuits throughout Suffolk County:
First, at around 3:30 p.m., she was spotted driving the stolen car in Lake Ronkonkoma. When police attempted to pull her over, she fled at high speed. This pursuit was terminated for safety reasons.
Later that day at approximately 7:30 p.m., Cahill was seen again in the stolen Corolla near Exit 61 of the Long Island Expressway (LIE). When approached by police, she allegedly backed into an unmarked police car and then sped off toward Exit 61 of the westbound LIE. She exited at Exit 60 to Express Drive North and drove against traffic until re-entering the LIE westbound lanes from Exit 61. She continued driving eastbound in westbound lanes until colliding head-on with a highway patrol car. Cahill then attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended.
On September 24, Cahill was arraigned before Acting Supreme Court Justice Anthony S. Senft Jr., facing multiple charges:
- Two counts of Assault in the Second Degree
- One count of Robbery in the Third Degree
- One count of Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree
- One count of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Fourth Degree

- One count of Reckless Endangerment in the Second Degree
- One count of Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree
- Two counts of Unlawful Fleeing of a Police Officer in the Third Degree

Justice Senft set bail at $100,000 cash or $200,000 bond or $1 million partially secured bond. Cahill is scheduled to return to court on October 15 and is represented by Chase Brown Esq.
