Christopher Doran, a 66-year-old resident of North Babylon, has been indicted on charges of Attempted Robbery in the First Degree and related offenses. Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced the indictment following an alleged incident involving a woman hired to clean Doran's apartment.

"The allegations in this case represent a disturbing pattern of predatory behavior," stated District Attorney Tierney. "This defendant allegedly lured the unsuspecting victim to his home under false pretenses and then attempted to steal from her at knifepoint."

The investigation revealed that on September 2, 2024, Doran allegedly invited the victim to his apartment on Weeks Road in North Babylon under the guise of needing cleaning services. Upon her arrival, he requested that she drive him to several locations between Bay Shore and Babylon, purportedly to retrieve cash for payment. When they arrived at a Chase Bank parking lot, Doran allegedly brandished a knife and demanded money from the victim.

As the victim tried to escape from the car, Doran reportedly grabbed her. She managed to break free, lock herself in her vehicle with Doran inside it. Unable to open the doors, Doran allegedly used a hammer to smash a window and fled. The following day, Suffolk County Police officers apprehended him.

On September 25, 2024, Doran was arraigned before Acting Supreme Court Justice Karen M. Wilutis on charges including Attempted Robbery in the First Degree (a Class C felony), Robbery in the Third Degree (a Class D felony), and Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree (a Class A misdemeanor).

Justice Ambro set bail at $100,000 cash or $200,000 bond or $1 million partially secured bond pending trial. If convicted on the top count, Doran faces up to 16 years to life in prison. He is represented by the Legal Aid Society.

Assistant District Attorney Scott Romano of the Major Crime Bureau is prosecuting this case with Detective John Caraccia leading the investigation for Suffolk County Police Department.
