David Wilson, a 42-year-old resident of Coram, New York, has been sentenced to ten years in prison followed by five years of post-release supervision. This follows his guilty plea in April to charges of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Second Degree.
Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced the sentencing, highlighting the danger posed by Wilson's possession of an illegally modified firearm and cocaine. "A drug dealer with an illegally modified firearm poses a clear threat to public safety," stated Tierney. He emphasized the commitment to working with law enforcement to remove illegal substances and weapons from communities.
The charges stem from an incident on March 3, 2023, when Suffolk County Police executed a search warrant at Wilson's home. Authorities found eight ounces of cocaine, a loaded pistol modified as a machine gun with an extended magazine, packaging materials, a digital scale, and over $11,000 in cash.
Wilson's criminal history includes multiple convictions for narcotics and weapons offenses. In January 2016, he was convicted of several felonies including Criminal Possession and Sale of Controlled Substances and Criminal Possession of a Weapon. Earlier convictions include Attempted Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in August 2004 and Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in June 2003.
Wilson entered his guilty plea on April 5, 2024, before Acting Supreme Court Justice Richard I. Horowitz.
