Yi-Xian Qin, PhD, a distinguished professor at Stony Brook University, is set to receive the 2025 Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) Christopher Jacobs Award for Excellence in Leadership. This award honors individuals demonstrating exceptional leadership within the Cell and Molecular Bioengineering community.
The BMES established this annual award in 2019 to honor the memory of Christopher R. Jacobs, PhD. It recognizes contributions in education, service, and knowledge dissemination related to the Cellular and Molecular Bioengineering field.
Dr. Qin's role at Stony Brook University includes being the Director of the Orthopaedic Bioengineering Research Laboratory and Co-Director of the Institute for Engineering-Driven Medicine. His research has advanced understanding of bone tissue response to various environments and stimuli. He has published over 180 peer-reviewed articles and holds U.S. patents on technologies like ultrasound diagnostic imaging and therapeutic applications for musculoskeletal diseases.
“It’s a great honor to receive this prestigious award, which allows us to enhance bioengineering and bone tissue regeneration research in mechanotransduction and translation in the Stony Brook community,” says Dr. Qin.
Dr. Qin will deliver a lecture at the 2025 BMES CMBE Conference in Carlsbad, California, from January 3 to 6.
He earned his master's degree and PhD from Stony Brook University's Department of Mechanical Engineering. Dr. Qin is recognized as a Fellow by several organizations including AIMBE, ASBMR, BMES, ASME, IAMBE, and IAA. He also serves as Executive Editor-in-Chief for Mechanobiology in Medicine.
Established in 1968 with over 6,800 members today, BMES is dedicated to advancing human health through collaboration in biomedical engineering.
