Frank LaBianca has been named the 2024 William Floyd Alumni Association Outstanding Educator. Born in Brooklyn, NY, in 1936 to Anna and Nunzio, LaBianca attended the New York School of Printing before obtaining his teaching degree from SUNY Oswego.
In 1960, LaBianca began his career with the William Floyd School District as an industrial arts teacher. He taught wood and print shop classes, with the latter serving as the district's in-house printing company for over 25 years. His classroom featured a wall displaying inspirational quotes and student projects.
LaBianca was also a committed coach and educator during his tenure at William Floyd. In 1965, he co-founded the William Floyd Teachers Union with nine other teachers. He organized a districtwide blood drive for a family in need and helped establish the Colonial Run to support local charities. Additionally, he launched the Teen Night Center program and advised the high school chess club.
As a coach, LaBianca led boys' cross country and track teams to success, earning multiple inductions into the William Floyd Athletic Hall of Fame. He founded and coached several sports teams including girls' cross-country, bowling, freshman football, and junior high baseball.
After retiring from the district in 1991, LaBianca now resides with his wife Marian of 65 years. They are cherished by their children Frank, Gina, Laurie, along with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
