Students at Nathaniel Woodhull Elementary School recently engaged in a STEM project under the guidance of Ms. Ashley Kilanowski. The second-grade class was involved in an engineering activity that required them to design and build their ideal school building using the six-step engineering design process: ask, imagine, plan, create, experiment, and improve.

With support from their parents, students created floor plans and constructed models of multi-floor school buildings using materials such as paper, tape, and drinking straws. This hands-on project aimed to provide real-world engineering experience to young learners.

Dr. Heather Murillo, principal of Nathaniel Woodhull Elementary School, highlighted the benefits of the initiative: “Through this collaborative project, students learned to brainstorm, problem-solve, and cooperate with their peers, fostering critical thinking and teamwork.” She also noted that parent involvement enhanced the learning experience by allowing them to observe their children's creativity firsthand.
