Gianna Trotta, a student-athlete in the 11th grade at William Floyd High School, has been recognized as one of the top 50 field hockey players for the fall 2024 season by Newsday.

Newsday highlighted Trotta's versatility on the field as a forward for the Colonials. Her performance last year included three goals and 11 assists, earning her All-Classification status from the Suffolk County Field Hockey Coaches Association. This recognition is comparable to an All-Conference honor in other sports. Besides field hockey, Trotta also plays as a starter on the girls' varsity lacrosse team.

In the current 2024 season, Trotta has played ten games and leads her team with six goals and four assists. With four games remaining in the regular season, she aims to surpass her previous record of 14 points achieved during her sophomore year. Her contributions have been instrumental in keeping William Floyd High School's varsity field hockey team competitive in Division I under head coach Maria Carucci.
