Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced that Ryszard Murawski, 44, from Lindenhurst, has been sentenced to 22 years to life in prison. Murawski pleaded guilty to Murder in the Second Degree for the fatal stabbing of his wife, Wioleta Murawski, in January.
"Domestic violence is a scourge that tears families apart and leaves immeasurable trauma in its wake," stated District Attorney Tierney. "When abusers use violence to exert power and control, it destroys lives and shatters communities. No one should ever have to experience the pain and loss that comes from such senseless acts."
The incident occurred on January 3, 2024. At approximately 8:33 p.m., Suffolk County Police received a distressing 911 call from the couple's 15-year-old son. He reported that his father had stabbed his mother and fled in a black GMC pick-up truck. The boy was distraught during the call as he tried desperately to save his mother's life.
According to the son's account, upon returning home from a friend's house, he heard his mother screaming for help in their backyard. He ran outside and witnessed Murawski attacking her with a large serrated knife. The boy intervened by jumping on his father and struggling with him until his mother could escape momentarily.
Wioleta managed to cross the street before collapsing with her son beside her. She was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
After fleeing the scene in a black GMC pick-up truck, Murawski led police on a chase when they attempted to stop him. The pursuit lasted over seven miles before he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a building.
Murawski's attack was recorded by his home surveillance system.
On September 17, 2024, Murawski entered a guilty plea before Acting Supreme Court Justice Karen M. Wilutis for Murder in the Second Degree, classified as a Class A felony.
Justice Wilutis sentenced him on October 17, 2024. Murawski was represented by Lindsay Henry, Esq.
