Dolores Mancialandaverde, a 28-year-old resident of Medford, has admitted guilt to charges related to fleeing the scene of a fatal motor vehicle accident. The incident, which occurred on June 8, 2024, resulted in the death of Hedilberto Nava-Perez and serious injuries to another passenger.
According to Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney, Mancialandaverde was operating a vehicle despite having a suspended license at the time of the crash. "Mancialandaverde was not supposed to be driving due to having a suspended license," said District Attorney Tierney. "Thus, this tragedy could have been avoided."
The investigation revealed that Mancialandaverde was driving his BMW southbound on Horseblock Road in Medford when he collided with a tractor trailer making a left turn. After the crash, Mancialandaverde fled the scene on foot while bystanders attempted to assist the victims.
Nava-Perez, who was seated in the back of Mancialandaverde's car, died at the scene. Another passenger sustained multiple fractures and was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment. The driver of the tractor trailer was unharmed.
On November 12, 2024, before Supreme Court Justice Timothy Mazzei, Mancialandaverde pleaded guilty to two counts: Leaving the Scene of an Incident Without Reporting as both Class D and Class E felonies.
