Stony Brook University, in partnership with the University of Waterloo, the Shinnecock Indian Nation, Open Ocean Robotics, and McLane Research Laboratories, has introduced a new solar-powered, remote-controlled craft. This innovative vessel is designed to autonomously navigate Shinnecock Bay for extended periods while collecting essential data on local marine species.

The project aims to gather information without causing any harm to the bay's ecosystem. The collaborative effort brings together academic institutions, indigenous communities, and technological companies to advance environmental research and conservation efforts.

The initiative highlights a growing trend in utilizing technology for ecological studies that prioritize sustainability and minimal environmental impact.
