Several former players from Stony Brook University's 1974 club football team gathered on October 5 to celebrate the team's 50th anniversary. The reunion took place during the Stony Brook Club Football Era Reunion, coinciding with the Seawolves' game against Villanova.

The team, originally known as the Patriots, was instrumental in reviving football at Stony Brook after the sport was disbanded in 1973. Players reunited for a tour of the athletics facilities and a pregame barbecue attended by Stony Brook University Interim President Richard McCormick.

“Reuniting with the guys was incredible,” said John Quinn ’77. “Some of us haven’t seen each other since the ’70s, but that camaraderie came right back. It was like we were in a time machine.”

After being disbanded, the players revived football as a club sport in 1974 under coach Fred Kemp. They independently managed all aspects of their team, including acquiring bleachers and equipment. “We fended for ourselves,” recalled Quinn. “We built our own field and managed our own equipment.” The team reached the club national championship in 1975.

During the event, attendees recognized all members of the group and held a tribute for Kevin Kehoe ’77, who has passed away.
