William Floyd High School recently hosted its first on-site admissions event of the academic year, providing students with a chance to interact directly with college admissions counselors. These events allow students to meet representatives from various institutions within their school environment, discuss future goals, and learn about what each institution offers. Students also have the opportunity to have their transcripts evaluated, explore scholarship opportunities, and sometimes receive immediate acceptance.
Representatives from 12 colleges and universities attended the event, including St. Joseph’s University, Hunter Business School, Pace University, Long Island University, Iona University, Molloy University, SUNY Old Westbury, SUNY Farmingdale, SUNY Delhi, Mount Saint Mary College, Suffolk County Community College, and Eastern Suffolk BOCES.
A total of 191 students participated in the event and were offered $620,000 in scholarships. More scholarship offers are expected as evaluations continue.
The next on-site admissions event is set for December 12th and will feature Suffolk Community College exclusively. A larger event is planned for February 6th where representatives from regional colleges and trade schools will be available. The final admissions day of the year is scheduled for April 24th with Suffolk County Community College participating again.
