Stony Brook University is set to play a significant role in the upcoming Climate Solutions Summit NYC, organized by The New York Climate Exchange. The summit, scheduled for April 23-24, will be held on Governors Island and aims to bring together experts from various fields to discuss climate change solutions.

The Exchange is currently seeking input from Stony Brook faculty, staff, and students for potential topics and sessions. Participants are encouraged to submit ideas for break-out discussions, lightning talks, research poster presentations, and pitch sessions that focus on projects applicable to Governors Island. Interested individuals should complete the submission form by February 18.

Interim President of Stony Brook University Richard L. McCormick emphasized the university's commitment to addressing climate change through participation in this inaugural event. "Stony Brook’s participation in this first-ever Climate Solutions Summit underscores our commitment to advancing conversations on climate change and its implications for our state, nation, and the world," he stated.

Kevin Reed, associate provost for climate and sustainability at Stony Brook and chief climate scientist at The Exchange, highlighted the summit's potential to foster collaborations with university partners and external organizations. "I’m excited to see our community share interdisciplinary research, leadership, and expertise in climate science and coastal environments," Reed said.

The summit will also address equity, environmental justice, community engagement, education topics, innovative technologies, and energy transitions. It is being hosted in collaboration with the New York City Panel on Climate Change (NPCC) and the Urban Climate Change Research Network (UCCRN).

Earlier this month, Carl Lejuez announced a strategic effort led by Reed and Heather Lynch at Stony Brook University aimed at optimizing efforts in educating future scholars about climate change challenges. "The goal is to empower collaboration and further solidify Stony Brook’s leadership in climate," Lejuez noted.
