Stony Brook University is marking Native American Heritage Month with events that highlight the contributions of Native American and Indigenous Peoples. Among these events is "Introduction to Long Island and Queens Native History," scheduled for Monday, November 18, at noon in the Student Activities Center auditorium. The event will feature Tecumseh Ceaser, a member of the Matinecock Turkey Clan, Montaukett, and Unkechaug Nations. He is known as a cultural educator and Wampum jewelry artist. Ceaser will discuss the history and culture of Indigenous communities native to Long Island and Queens.
"This event is an enriching opportunity to connect with the region’s original cultures and their lasting impact today," organizers stated.
The event is open to all members of Stony Brook University and guests without charge. It is sponsored by Diversity, Intercultural and Community Engagement (DICE), along with the Native American and Indigenous Studies Initiative.
Additionally, a dinner celebrating Native American cuisine will be available on Wednesday, November 20 at 4 pm at both East Side and West Side Dining facilities through SBU Eats.
