Assemblyman Ed Flood recently honored Earl L. Vandermeulen High School in Port Jefferson with an official Assembly Proclamation. The school has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report for its excellence in STEM education, ranking 119th nationally and third on Long Island among the top 2,000 schools.

Schools are considered for these rankings based on their ability to provide strong science, technology, engineering, and mathematics courses. They must also offer college-level programs like Advanced Placement math and science courses, with students achieving qualifying scores on exams.

Flood also participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Computer Science Center at the high school, a project he supported through funding efforts (A.8803-D).

“It is my utmost honor to recognize the great talents of Earl L. Vandermeulen High School, and the dedication has paid off,” said Flood. “I’m confident you’ll continue to make a positive impact in our community. Wishing you continued success in all your future endeavors!"
