Brookhaven Lab honors four key contributors with 2024 awards

The Brookhaven National Laboratory has announced the recipients of the 2024 Brookhaven Awards, recognizing outstanding service by key contributors in support functions. The awards highlight individuals whose work significantly advances the laboratory's mission.

Daniel Dandola from the Business Services Directorate is one of the awardees. Since joining in 2018, Dandola has been instrumental as a business operations manager, contributing to financial analysis and budgeting across various departments. His efforts in stabilizing the Workday labor interface and spearheading institutional reporting using PowerBI have revolutionized data accessibility at the Lab. "Dandola is a highly valued colleague whose professionalism and strategic guidance continue to benefit the entire organization."

Michelle McQueen from Facilities & Operations has also been recognized for her leadership over nearly two decades. Her contributions have included improving safety performance through revitalizing systems and integrating health guidelines during the COVID-19 pandemic. "McQueen’s professionalism, attention to detail, and ability to inspire collaboration have earned her the respect of her colleagues and the Lab community."

Aleida Perez from the Office of Educational Programs has been acknowledged for over ten years of transformative leadership in science education and outreach. She played a pivotal role in programs that provided hands-on research experiences for students, particularly those from underrepresented groups. "Perez’s dedication to education and her leadership have earned her widespread recognition."

Frank Toldo from the Physics Department was honored for his significant roles since 1986, especially his leadership in major experiments like PHENIX and sPHENIX. Despite pandemic challenges, Toldo ensured timely project completion with his technical skills and collaborative approach. "Toldo’s dedication to excellence and his ability to bring out the best in his team make him a deserving recipient."

These awards were part of a larger celebration recognizing 359 staff members at Brookhaven Lab during their 2024 Employee Awards event.
