Stony Brook University's WUSB-FM is concluding its annual Radiothon with a call for support on Giving Tuesday, December 3. The radio station, known as Long Island's largest non-commercial, free-form broadcaster, has been in operation for 47 years and can be heard on 90.1 FM and 107.3 FM.
Facing a budget shortfall, WUSB seeks financial assistance to maintain its operations. Donations made at the end of the year are tax-exempt and go towards operational expenses rather than salaries. Supporters have the option to pledge online or contact the office at (631) 632-6828 or the radio station at (631) 632-6901. Donations of $75 and $50 will be acknowledged with hoodies and T-shirts respectively.
WUSB offers a diverse range of programming including interviews, news, commentary, and various music genres such as jazz, pop, punk, metal, electronic, funk, folk, blues, reggae among others. Additionally, it broadcasts numerous public service announcements annually to inform listeners about local resources like events and weather emergencies.
The station's funding comes from listener donations alongside contributions from Stony Brook University’s Undergraduate Student Government and Graduate Student Organization as well as local business underwriting and grants.
