Frank and Michele Fischer, alumni of Stony Brook University, have decided to give back to the institution by establishing endowed funds for students and the Stony Brook Cancer Center. Frank, a 1997 graduate, pursued engineering following his brothers' footsteps at Stony Brook, while Michele, who graduated in 1999, chose meteorology as her field of study.

Over the years since their graduation, the Fischers have made regular contributions towards scholarships and funds supporting atmospheric sciences and engineering programs. Recently motivated by initiatives such as the New York State endowment match program and the Simons Infinity Investment Match Challenge, they sought to create a more significant impact.

Their efforts resulted in the creation of the Frank and Michele Fischer Endowed Scholarship. This scholarship is designed to assist students from both the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences and the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences.

“We remember how hard it was having a job on campus while in school,” said Frank. “And we’re hoping that this scholarship will help take a little bit of pressure off of students as they navigate their studies.”

The Fischers’ story is featured on SB Matters.
