Stony Brook University's Vice President for Strategic Initiatives and Executive Director of Stony Brook Southampton, Wendy Pearson, was recognized by the Town of Southampton as one of its "Women of Distinction" on March 6. The event took place at Southampton Town Hall, organized by the Anti-Bias Task Force Committee.

Pearson's nomination came from Town Supervisor Maria Z. Moore. The ceremony celebrated Black History Month and acknowledged local women for their significant contributions to the community.

The honorees were presented with certificates that expressed gratitude for their "outstanding leadership and dedicated service." The certificates stated: “Thank you for your outstanding efforts to improve our quality of life, encourage positive human relations and, above all, inspire dignity and respect for our multicultural and diverse community.” These were signed by Moore along with town council members Michael A. Iasilli, Cyndi McNamara, and William Pell IV.

Pearson has been part of Stony Brook since November 2023. She collaborates closely with campus leaders to identify and promote institutional priorities at Stony Brook University, including developing a comprehensive plan for the Stony Brook Southampton campus.
