Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney has announced the indictment of Mitchell K. Johnson, a 38-year-old resident of Farmingville, on charges of sex trafficking. Johnson is accused of using physical violence and narcotics to coerce a woman into engaging in sexual acts for profit.
"One of my top priorities is the complete elimination of sex trafficking within Suffolk County," said District Attorney Tierney. "This indictment is a pledge to the victim and our community that these heinous acts will be met with our most significant penalties."
The investigation revealed that starting in March 2023, Johnson allegedly supplied the victim with crack cocaine to impair her judgment, coercing her into performing paid sexual acts with third parties. He reportedly exploited the victim's addiction as a means of control, imposing strict rules such as prohibiting her from keeping any money or leaving the motel room alone. Additionally, he allegedly confiscated her identification and threatened both her and her family with violence.
On one occasion, Johnson purportedly forced the victim to perform oral sex on him and subsequently strangled her until she lost consciousness when he withheld drugs from her. In May 2023, the victim managed to escape after being assaulted at Johnson's direction for refusing to engage in sexual activities with buyers. She reported the abuse to law enforcement following her escape.
Johnson was arraigned on December 26, 2024, before Acting Supreme Court Justice Stephen L. Braslow on multiple charges: one count of Sex Trafficking (Force), one count of Criminal Sexual Act in the First Degree, four counts of Sex Trafficking, one count of Promoting Prostitution in the Second Degree, one count of Strangulation in the Second Degree, one count of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree, and one count of Criminal Sexual Act in the Third Degree.
