Congressman Nick LaLota, currently representing New York’s 1st district, took to social media to discuss matters ranging from art competitions to voter legislation. LaLota, who succeeded Lee Zeldin in 2023, used the platform to communicate with his constituents and express his views on various issues.
On March 26, 2025, LaLota announced an opportunity for high school students in New York’s 1st district to participate in the Congressional Art Competition. "NY01 high school students—showcase your talent in the Congressional Art Competition!" LaLota encouraged submissions to be made by April 4, 2025, and provided details on where and how to submit entries.
Later the same day, LaLota addressed voter ID laws. He stated, "Voter ID laws aren’t racist. As a former Suffolk Elections Commissioner, I know they promote election integrity and make poll check-ins easier." He advocated for New York to implement such laws, joining 36 other states in enacting voter ID requirements.
On March 27, 2025, LaLota expressed his support for the SAVE Act, a legislative measure focused on voter eligibility. He tweeted, "Proud to cosponsor the SAVE Act—because only U.S. citizens should vote in federal elections." LaLota called for measures that ensure election integrity, including proof of citizenship for voter registration and removing noncitizens from voter rolls.
LaLota emphasized the importance of election integrity as a non-negotiable matter, highlighting the steps the SAVE Act would take to ensure only U.S. citizens participate in federal elections.
