John Melandro, a fifth-grade teacher at Tangier Smith Elementary School, has been recognized as the recipient of the prestigious 2024 Milken Educator Award. This accolade is often referred to as the "Oscar of Teaching" and honors educators who demonstrate exceptional dedication to excellence in education.

Melandro will be featured alongside Dominic Ciliotta, principal of Tangier Smith Elementary School, in an upcoming interview on "Spotlight on Long Island Schools." The program is scheduled for Saturday, January 25, at 10:30 am on LI News Radio 103.9 or online at www.linewsradio.com. The show is hosted by Robert Vecchio, executive director of the Nassau-Suffolk School Boards Association and a former trustee and president of the William Floyd Board of Education.

The Milken Educator Award marks a significant achievement for both Melandro and the William Floyd School District, as he is the first educator from this district to receive such recognition.

For those unable to listen live, a recording of the program will be made available afterward.
