Residents of the William Floyd School District will soon vote on a proposed $78.5 million facilities capital improvement project. The vote is scheduled for Wednesday, March 26, 2025, from 6 am to 8 pm in the east lobby of William Floyd High School.

The proposal promises no additional cost to taxpayers due to nearly 88% reimbursement from New York State building aid and the use of three voter-approved Capital Reserve Funds. These funds were established in May 2021 ($5 million), May 2022 ($5 million), and May 2024 ($10 million) along with accrued interest.

The planned improvements aim to address several key areas across all district buildings. This includes repairing aging infrastructure such as pavements, plumbing, and communication systems, as well as expanding classroom spaces for students.

A recent five-year building condition survey by the New York State Education Department highlighted areas needing attention to maintain operational safety and compliance with state codes.

The district encourages residents to review detailed information about the project available through various resources provided by the school district before casting their votes.

Voting will take place at William Floyd High School located at 240 Mastic Beach Road, Mastic Beach, NY, on March 26.
