Lucille Maier, an esteemed educator in the field of art, has been recognized as a Fine Arts Wall of Distinction Honoree for 2025. Maier's career began after she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in art education from Molloy College in 1972, followed by a Master of Arts from the College of New Rochelle in 1973.

Maier started teaching art at William Floyd High School and the junior high school in September 1973. During this time, she also served as secretary of the PTA. In 1976, she joined the newly opened William Paca Middle School, where she introduced students to art and encouraged participation in contests at various levels.

Throughout her career, Maier was involved in innovative programs such as the "Gifted and Talented" program during the 1980s. She also contributed to curriculum development across different school levels and mentored student teachers.

In the early 1990s, Maier taught ninth-grade students in portable classrooms before returning to William Paca Middle School until her retirement in 2005. Her dedication was recognized when she was voted "Teacher of the Year" by her peers in 1996.

Reflecting on her career and recognition, Maier expressed gratitude: “William Floyd has been good to me. It allowed me to express my love for art and at the same time gave me the joy of working with children and the best part is I have made lifelong friendships with the people that I worked with!”
