Nasir Stovall, a 2021 alumnus of Stony Brook University, has been named to the 10th class of Schwarzman Scholars. This program is recognized as one of the leading graduate fellowship programs globally. Stovall was selected from nearly 5,000 candidates worldwide and joins 150 scholars from 38 countries and 105 universities.

The program offers scholars a one-year, fully funded master's degree focused on leadership, global affairs, and China at Schwarzman College, Tsinghua University in Beijing. "There are so many healthcare solutions and innovations around the world," said Stovall. "I’m excited for the opportunity to collaborate and learn from a different healthcare system." Upon completion, he will earn a master's degree in global affairs.

Stovall's connection with Stony Brook began in high school through the Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP). During his time at the university, he studied biology and participated in the Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP). He remarked on its significance: “It’s such an important program to bring more opportunities to underrepresented students interested in STEM careers.”

Currently, Stovall is in his third year at Harvard Medical School. Reflecting on his journey, he stated: “I didn’t think I’d ever get to Harvard,” acknowledging that "Stony Brook prepared me and gave me the opportunities to network with people who helped me get here."
