The William Floyd High School boys' varsity wrestling team recently participated in the Suffolk County Championships, where they achieved notable success. Led by head coach Tony Mecca, the team saw 10 student-athletes compete, with Josiah Lors emerging as the overall county champion in the 215-pound weight class. Lors's victory marks William Floyd's first Suffolk County champion title in two decades.
The Colonials faced competition from 41 teams across Suffolk County and secured a ninth-place finish with a total of 80.5 points. In addition to Lors's triumph, Jack Meyer and David Gonzalez also earned county medals, finishing fourth and fifth respectively.
Josiah Lors demonstrated exceptional performance throughout the tournament, culminating in an 8-1 decision win in the finals to claim his championship title. His season record stands at an impressive 41-1, having won multiple competitions and tournaments within his weight class. Earlier this month, he also secured a League I championship.
This victory qualifies Josiah for the New York State Championships scheduled for this weekend at MVP Arena in Albany, NY. Head coach Tony Mecca expressed optimism about Josiah's prospects at the state level.
