Edwin Tan, a mechanical engineering student from the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, has been awarded a $10,000 grant to support his team’s project proposal for NASA’s L’SPACE training program. This initiative offers students the chance to gain practical experience in creating project proposals through teamwork.

Tan is involved in designing a Venus Aerobot aimed at exploring Venus' atmosphere. During the summer, he collaborated with students and engineers across various states, learning about proposal evaluation and Aerobot development. As lead systems engineer, Tan's efforts have resulted in securing a $10,000 grant for building a prototype.

The program began in August 2024 and spans one year. It requires Tan and his team to develop an operational prototype for NASA's evaluation, which could potentially be used in future missions. The team works across multiple states, shipping components to Maryland as part of their collaborative effort.

This accomplishment underscores Tan's dedication to innovation and collaboration within this unique program.
