Matt Senk Head baseball coach | Stony Brook University
Stony Brook University head baseball coach Matt Senk achieved a significant milestone with his 950th career win. The victory came when the Seawolves defeated Niagara 15-7 in their home opener on March 7 at Joe Nathan Field.
Senk joins an exclusive group of only 11 active college baseball coaches who have reached this number of career wins. Matthew Jackson was instrumental in the victory, contributing three hits, including a home run, and five RBI. George Adams secured his second win of the season by pitching 3.2 shutout innings from the bullpen.
In his 35th season with Stony Brook, Senk is recognized as the university's longest-serving coach. He has led the team to 27 winning seasons and earned multiple accolades, including being named America East Coach of the Year three times and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association National Coach of the Year in 2012. That year, he guided Stony Brook to an impressive performance in the College World Series after defeating Louisiana State University (LSU) in the Super Regional.
Under Senk’s leadership, Stony Brook has claimed seven regular-season championships and six conference tournament titles while making six NCAA Tournament appearances. His achievements have earned him spots in both the New York State Baseball Hall of Fame and Suffolk County Sports Hall of Fame.
Senk has also played a role in advancing players' careers beyond college baseball, with 51 signing professional contracts and five reaching Major League Baseball — among them Joe Nathan, Travis Jankowski, Nick Tropeano, Tom Koehler, and Daniel Zamora. Patrick Cantwell recently celebrated a World Series victory as a bullpen coach for the Texas Rangers alongside Jankowski.
Following Senk's landmark win against Niagara, Stony Brook has recorded a mixed record of three wins and three losses, bringing their overall standing to eight wins against nine losses as they prepare for upcoming games on their schedule.
