Stony Brook University’s Staller Center hosted the Syncopated Ladies on March 14, who delivered a lively tap performance that resonated with the audience. The all-female group showcased their unique blend of modern and hip-hop-inspired choreography, demonstrating the enduring appeal of tap dance.

The performance celebrated sisterhood by integrating dance with personal stories that encouraged attendees to pursue education alongside their dreams. "If you want to tap dance, you have to get good grades," quipped Emmy-nominated choreographer Chloé Arnold, reflecting her mother's advice. Chloé chose Columbia University over Harvard to study film while following her passion for dance.

Founded in 2003 by Chloé, the Syncopated Ladies have achieved notable success, including collaborations with Beyoncé and appearances on FOX's So You Think You Can Dance and Good Morning America. With over 200 million viral views across social media platforms, they left a memorable impression at Stony Brook.

The nearly full theater responded enthusiastically to each step and slide, with motivational speeches and Broadway-quality vocals creating engaging moments for the crowd. Syndee Winters, known for her role as Nala in Disney’s The Lion King and a Long Island native, energized the audience by singing Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance with Somebody.”

The show also conveyed messages of empowerment, resilience, and breaking barriers in dance. Through stories and choreography, performers encouraged the audience to embrace passion and perseverance. "One of the most important things we are going to talk about is: don’t let anybody steal your joy," said Maud Arnold with a smile.

Tickets for future performances at the Staller Center can be secured through stallercenter.com or by calling (631) 632-ARTS.
