SUNY leaders, including Chancellor John B. King Jr., organized a landmark research expo on March 18 at the New York State Capitol. The event was a collaborative effort from the presidents of SUNY's university centers—University at Albany, Binghamton University, University at Buffalo, and Stony Brook University.

Stony Brook faculty across several disciplines presented their research to state legislators and their teams. The presentations aimed to highlight the importance of funding Stony Brook University's research facilities. SBU Interim President Richard McCormick commented, "We had a successful trip to Albany advocating for our students and for much-needed resources to support Stony Brook’s efforts as a flagship public research university." He noted the contributions of five Stony Brook faculty members in fields such as neuroscience, physics, medical device development, artificial intelligence, and energy storage, describing their contributions as strengthening the advocacy efforts with legislative officials.

The expo was part of the SUNY and University Center Presidents Advocacy Day, aligning with SUNY's state budget priorities. Meetings during this visit included high-profile discussions with the Governor’s Senior Leadership Team, the Senate Majority Leader, the Assembly Speaker, and both Houses' Higher Education Committees.
