Stony Brook University's Center for Civic Justice organized a panel for Women's History Month on March 26, titled "Her Impact: Women Driving Change," which focused on women's roles in advocacy and leadership. Keynote speaker Tina Tchen, who is the executive vice president and chief strategy and impact officer for the Obama Foundation, addressed the participants virtually. The panel included Lynda Perdoma-Ayala, chair of the Suffolk County Human Rights Commission; Carolyn Peabody, a director in the School of Social Welfare; and Rahsmia Zatar, executive director of S.T.R.O.N.G. Youth. They shared their experiences in public service and social justice, offering insights to students on driving change.

Ashley Liegi, assistant director of the Center for Civic Justice, emphasized that "this event continues to grow and improve each year." She added, "In previous years, we’ve highlighted women in elected office, emphasizing the importance of representation in government. This year, we wanted to expand the conversation to the many ways women can create meaningful change in both local and global communities."

Rachel Alexandre, a senior coordinator for the Center for Civic Justice, noted the event's focus on providing a platform for students to learn from leaders. She said, "It’s so important to create platforms where students can hear from leaders who have faced both successes and setbacks in their careers. When we learn from their experiences, we empower future generations to break barriers and build a better future."

Organized in collaboration with the Office of Diversity, Intercultural and Community Engagement, the event highlighted the significance of amplifying women's voices for positive change at various levels.
