Stony Brook Southampton, in collaboration with The Jazz Loft, is set to present a concert series featuring Grammy-winning musicians Dan Pugach and Nicole Zuraitis. The series, called The Jazz Loft @ Southampton Concert Series, consists of five concerts emphasizing both the historical and contemporary aspects of jazz.
This collaboration is curated by Professor Thomas Manuel, founder of The Jazz Loft and Stony Brook University Jazz Department Endowed Artist in Residence Fellow. The initiative aims to preserve and educate about jazz while engaging the Southampton community.
Four concerts will be held at the Avram Theater on the Stony Brook Southampton campus. The fourth concert will take place under a tent on the athletics field. "The Jazz Loft @ Southampton is part of a vibrant spring and summer season that brings together our community, faculty, staff, and students around powerful themes—from jazz as a symbol of democracy to the legacy of Long Island’s juke joints and the soul of Latin jazz," stated Wendy Pearson, Vice President for Strategic Initiatives and Executive Director of Stony Brook Southampton.
Professor Manuel expressed his enthusiasm for the new partnership, saying, "I am thrilled for our new collaboration with Stony Brook Southampton and the opportunity to bring The Jazz Loft’s programming to the East End."
The concerts will cover various themes, starting with "Jazz As Democracy" and concluding with "Abstract Angularity." Ticket prices are set at $36 per performance for general admission and $18 for Stony Brook students. A full series pass is available for $144.
