The AI Innovation Institute (AI3) has announced an upgrade to its computing infrastructure with the acquisition of the Nvidia HGX H100 system. This enhancement aims to boost AI3's capabilities in handling complex machine learning tasks across several domains, including language processing, vision, healthcare, education, sustainability, and weather modeling.
The newly integrated system is equipped with eight Nvidia HGX H100 GPUs and has a memory capacity of 6TB. This configuration is designed to manage extensive data volumes and perform complex calculations at high speeds without compromising performance.
"This is the most powerful machine in our AI3 computing cluster, and it is being kept quite busy by our students," stated Steven Skiena, interim director of AI3.
Panagiotis Kaliosis, a PhD student from the Department of Computer Science, shared insights on how the system supports academic research. "I found the new AI3 Cluster really useful. We are currently working with cutting-edge Large Language Models (LLMs), such as Llama and DeepSeek, which require significant computational resources that are now more easily accessible. We are now on track to submit a new paper that makes a timely contribution in the intersection of Computer Science, Psychology, and Cognitive Science," Kaliosis remarked.
Further details about this upgrade and its implications for AI research can be read in Ankita Nagpal's full article on the AI Innovation Institute website.
