STONY BROOK UNIVERSITY: Podcast Explores Challenge of Remote Learning

Coronavirus update920

Stony Brook University issued the following announcement on April 7.

In the latest episode of the “Beyond the Expected” podcast series, Interim President Michael Bernstein explores remote learning with Stony Brook administrators and faculty grappling with the COVID-19 crisis.

Like college campuses across the country, Stony Brook is rising to the unprecedented challenge of massive-scale remote learning. Virtual classes began on Monday, March 30, following an extended spring break. Tune in as “The Coronavirus Effect: Remote Learning Response” looks at the issues Stony Brook Divisions of Undergraduate Education and Information Technology are addressing to smooth the way for faculty and students in this strange new world.

This episode’s guests are:

  • Patricia Aceves, Assistant Vice President, Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT), has developed quality course design standards that have allowed faculty to create robust content and courses to ensure that remote students are receiving the same quality education as they would face-to-face.
  • Charlie Robbins, Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and Student Success and Dean of the Undergraduate Colleges, has a uniquely in-depth perspective to share around the transition to remote learning, and all that entails on so many different levels, and what Stony Brook University is doing to ensure the smoothest, most equitable transition for all.
  • Diana Voss, Director of Academic Technology Services, Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT), supports numerous technology platforms including Blackboard, Adobe Connect, VoiceThread, Digication, Clickers, Echo360 and Qualtrics. She and her team are responsible for the function of applications and simulations developed in the Teaching & Learning Lab, and student technology workshops.
