Cost of college went up for all students at Suffolk County Community College

In-state tuition and fees rose 3.4 percent for 2018-19 at Suffolk County Community College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

New York residents paid $5,792 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $192 more than the $5,600 charged for 2017-18.

Non-resident students would have paid 90.1 percent more than residents this year, or $11,012. Non-resident tuition and fees grew 5.2 percent from $10,470 in 2017-18.

About 99 percent of the school's undergraduate population are New York residents.

Data shows 70 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 2,702 students received grants or scholarships totaling $16.8 million and 760 students took out student loans totaling more than $2.9 million.

Including all undergraduates (26,078), 10,372 students used grants or scholarships totaling $55.6 million, and 3,248 students took out $12.8 million in federal student loans.
