WASHINGTON, D.C. - On July 13th, 2023, Rep. Nick LaLota (NY-01), the former Commissioner of the Suffolk County Board of Elections, introduced the Election Worker Tax Benefits Act. This legislation would allow election workers across the U.S. to exempt qualified election worker compensation from gross income on their annual taxes.
“As a former Suffolk County Election Commissioner, I know firsthand the important role trustworthy election workers play in conducting efficient, safe, and secure elections. I’m proud to introduce the Election Worker Tax Benefits Act to provide a much-needed incentive to train and retain qualified election workers,” said LaLota. “Americans deserve to know their elections are run securely and having competent and experienced staff is an integral piece. I look forward to working with all my colleagues to pass my commonsense bill to help secure our elections.”
