WASHINGTON, D.C. - Rep. Nick LaLota (R-Suffolk County) has successfully secured $97.9 million in federal funding for Brookhaven National Lab (BNL). In a statement released today, LaLota expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "I am delighted to announce the successful procurement of nearly $100 million in federal funding for Brookhaven National Lab."
The allocated funds, totaling $97.9 million, are designated for the groundbreaking Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) project at BNL. This includes $95 million for construction and $2.9 million for other projected costs. LaLota emphasized the significance of this funding, highlighting the importance of expanding U.S. leadership in nuclear physics and accelerator science, fields critical to technological advancement, economic growth, and national security.
The Energy and Water Appropriations Bill, recently signed into law, provided the financial support for this pivotal project. LaLota underscored the potential for strong international collaboration through the EIC project, attracting top talent to the U.S. and New York for cutting-edge research and technological advancements.
In addition to his efforts for BNL, LaLota's bipartisan Department of Energy and Small Business Administration Research Act received unanimous approval in the House earlier this month. The bill aims to enhance joint research and development activities between the Department of Energy, National Laboratories, including BNL, and the Small Business Administration.
LaLota's commitment to supporting BNL and advancing scientific research is evident through his multiple visits to the facility and continuous advocacy for its work. The congressman stressed his dedication to maximizing taxpayer dollars for the benefit of Suffolk County residents, ensuring that the funding will further enhance employment opportunities and research initiatives at Brookhaven National Lab.
