Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine, alongside various partners, has revealed the revival of the "Heroes of the Game" program for the 2024 season. The program aims to pay tribute to local veterans and active-duty personnel by selecting up to two individuals during each home game at Fairfield Properties Ballpark. Romaine expressed, “The ‘Heroes of the Game’ program gives baseball fans the chance to honor and recognize the selfless men and women who put their lives on the line for our country.”

Legislator Nick Caracappa also highlighted the significance of honoring veterans, stating, “It’s important we recognize these brave men and women of our military for their services, sacrifices and commitment to our great Nation.” Caracappa emphasized the importance of celebrating these heroes, especially in a community like Suffolk County, which is home to a large veteran population.

The Long Island Ducks President/Chief Business Officer Michael Pfaff expressed the organization's delight in continuing the program, acknowledging the positive feedback received from various stakeholders. Similarly, Rosa Murciano, Flagstar Long Island branch banking division executive, conveyed Flagstar Bank's pride in sponsoring the program and recognizing veterans who have tirelessly served and defended their communities.

Since 2015, Suffolk County Government and the Long Island Ducks have jointly honored numerous local veterans and military personnel. With Suffolk County being home to nearly 100,000 veterans, this program holds significant importance. Veterans and active-duty personnel interested in being recognized as one of the “Heroes of the Game” can register through the Suffolk County website or by contacting the designated email address.

The collaborative efforts of Suffolk County, the Long Island Ducks, and their partners in celebrating the bravery and dedication of local veterans and active-duty personnel serve as a commendable gesture of gratitude towards those who have served and continue to serve the nation.
